Mate, stop giving advice

Ive had 4 x16xe's, all of which were quite as a mouse... Even with 110k on the clock.

only ever had my x16 tap when itwas low on oil, never heard a tappy x14 or x14 my xe used to tap for the first few seconds,

ifthe tappets are away, id have a look at the history of the car if there any to see if its worth doing a cambelt and water pump while its all stripped down.

I want to like to Jeddy since I feel your heart is in the right place, but THIS x100 if you don't really know what you're talking about. Or at least say 'you think' so that people aren't taking it as gospel.

try sticking a but plug in the exhaust and singing an old britney spears song with your pants round your ankles, that should do it, if not ask an expert eh?

lol,
nah come on fellas, the lad asked a question about his car that hasnt been solved, he's going to walk away from cs thinking there all a bunch of arseholes that dont help and pride ourselves on what we think we know about cars...

help him!, isnt that what the help sections about?

srijack- to be totally honest, if oil change hasn't made it shut up (not even a bit) then sounds like the lifters or something I THINK. i dont really know! it could even be something in the injection area??? i dont know, doubt it though
changing tappets will be quite a size job, not really hard hard, but very time consuming and frustrating. there's not much room for error. like stated above ^ t.belt off, cams out and you've got access to them, witch in my opinion is easy, BUT putting it back together (properly) will take you more time and isnt as easy as i made out before, apologise for that one

How much is a new engine going to be as the old belt comes off?

£50 from Autovaux for a full timing belt kit plus the lifters from them.

If you're paying a garage to do the job, expect to pay £200 to £300 for everything. Budget for more so that way it'll not sting as much.

Telling him a bunch of shite about how 'every 16v's a bit tappy mate' isn't helping, it's how stupid internet rumours start about cars. I know fine well I'm not an 'expert' but at least I don't go running my mouth off just seemingly trying to boost my post count - are you even able to trade yet? Or have we got more Jeddy mind fucks to come?
