I have had my TV for around 3 plus years now, so i am looking into upgrading ,i no that i don't want a 3D TV ,but i am very much interested in the LED TV'S.
The TV will be playing games watching dvds ect.
My current TV is Samsung 37inc LCD TV, so i am looking for a TV the same size or bigger for around £600 price mark.

Samsung 40C580.
Don't go LED unless you want it for show and aren't too fussed about the picture quality.

I am looking for good picture quality tbh, i play my xbox every other day so would like a decent quality picture

The Samsung I mention is good for gaming, game mode reduces input lag considerably, giving a slight advantage on first person shooters etc.

I love mine and people always comment on the picture quality.
Its also £200 under your budget but its regarded you would need to spend at least another £200 over the C580 to get a better TV. The D series is out soon too so it might come down even more.

My mum bought an LG LED LCD and it was fantastic quality, but it came with a stupid power brick!

Be wary of the LG's, at the least go and view it in a store. Obviously the lighting conditions etc won't be idea but you'll be able to compare it to others in the same conditions. Also ask for the remotes to play about with the settings/reset if needed and ensure the TV's you're comparing are on the same feed.
I found the picture on the LG (which I went in the store to buy) poor quality, even slighlty pixelated and not a vibrant or deep blacks compared to the Samsung. Don't quote me but from what i've read LG are known for washed out blacks.
Also be careful of uneven and bleeding backlighting with the LED backlit, I also read again that the LED's can't produce as deep black as some CCFL, again that might be bollocks. 
Top LED bottom CCFL:
From what I can gather LED's all marketing hype unless you can afford a locally dimming LED backlit TV. ££££

They have a much higher contrast ratio than CCFL which leads people to believe this.
As above, the Panny plasma's a good choice.

Course not, I can only speak for the TV's I researched in my £400-600 price range.
The general consesus from research and having viewed a number of sets is that LED is marketing bullshit.
Unless your spending mucho £££ the CCFL backlit TV's give an overall better picture for less money in most cases.

My LG LED is fantastic and I'd be seriously nitpicking if I was to find any faults worthy of not buying it. I have an 37LE5300 btw.

Yep, mostly used for 360, BluRay and Sky HD. I honestly can't fault it. You could spend hours looking into TV's, but in the end you just have to take the plunge and pick one which meets your requirements.
