I need to upgrade the brakes on my Specialized Hardrock. I have Avid BB5's currently and they are shite!

I want to get some decent brakes but don't really want to spend loads.

I THINK I need post mount for the front and IS Mount on the rear. Can anyone confirm that?
For reference here is my front brake:

I would love a set of Hope 4 pots at the front, but they are silly money

Does anyone have any brakes for sale? Can anyone get cheap prices?

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Are these any good: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=53568
And will they fit my bike?

Ive got Hayes HFX's on my work commute hack and they have been faultless for 3+ years

Bit more and you can get Avid Juicy's got these on the scott and love em

got hopes on my trials bike which are also nice but more money and no better really imo.

Thats an IS with a post adaptor in the pic.

Avid and hayes come with both. Well mine did anyway

Ahhhh ok so my current brakes are IS fit and are attached via an adaptor to make them mount fit?

http://www.mtbr.com/cat/brakes/disc-brake-system/formulabrakes/oro-k18/prd_365396_1507crx.aspx

Reading the reviews there seem to be no negative reviews, is that site to be believed?

Also if I buy the 160 set can I just throw a 185 rotor on the front or will I need to buy a new adaptor as well?

BB5's are amazing if set up correctly, get the correct cable and lever and they'll be better than any hydraulic.
I used to ride trials and would pick a Avid cable disc any day!

Cable Disc better than Hydraulic - I gotta say you probably havent tried the right Hydraulic Disc, I have had both and the cable was hugely behind, in every way.

A magura Hs33 rim brake will be a better bet than cable

Ive had, HS33, BB7, BB5, Hope mono mini, Hope Mono Trial and id still say cable disc with a oddesey cable and a decent lever had much better hold that a hydraulic.

Avid Juicy Fives should do nicely. Depends on the bike & riding style though.

Agree they probably have the best bite. Goof for trials but I still feel that the hydraulics offer better control and modulation for more "normal" riding conditions

Gotta say i dont do trials riding, more trails, but the stopping distance from speed, modulation and shere power of a hydraulic always come up better!

Juicy 3's or 5's seem to be a good bet. ive just got hayes cable brakes and they faded too quick. so i upgraded to a 203mm front disc and the difference is night and day!
