a friends astra wont start, does nothing when you turn the key but bump starts, starter or alternator?
I didnt think it would be the starter as surely it wouldnt bump?

Thats exactly the thing it would do. Its starter, or the wiring to it/the ign switch.

if starter is fucked then you can bump it
more than likely the culprit if been running fine until then
