It may well all be experience, but the issues still stand with english football. It's too much about size and square pegs in round holes. Why start with 2 lads who are going to be CB's in the midfield? Pearce is a mug, but it's not all his fault. Until we start, as a nation, developing players with good technical potential, we will always fall short of the better european and sout american teams.

because we spend 300billion on a stadium rather than on grass roots training.
Seriously, employment problem could be sorted with the worlds best footballing infrastructure. more money would come in from sponsors because everyone wants to be a part of our dominance.

It is about money, and it isn't. I've read a few blogs about scouting practices and one of the problems is that scouts are happier to recommend the big lads as they think there is more chance of them making it at the clubs they offer them to (and in turn more chance of the scouts demonstrating their value to there employers). Whilst I haven't got a problem with physical players (and I know the PL has developed into a physical league), we need to strike a balance. That picture of Iniesta playing against the lad who looks like his dad demonstrates the point quite well.
Until we address that and get better technical coaches we are never going to be anything more than a big strong team with a couple of flair players who (who are genuinely good enough) coming through every few years.
We also need to get the media to sort there heads out. Too much praise, too early isn't good, neither is kicking a team when they are down.

tbf they are working towards the grass roots, the Burton training centre thing will be a big step forward, it's the lack of hours ALLOWED to train up youngsters that's hampering a lot of potential at the moment.
Crewe have been producing players consistently for 15 years now, if they can do it with the size that they are, surely that model could of been easily scaled up to the bigger clubs?
There's been better training in place for a few years now, in theory the results should be coming through in the next 5-10 years... IF they've worked, which knowing the FA, probably not

Vidic and Ferdinand have done the same early last season. Still the best central defence in the world though.

TBF of what I saw of them in this tournament (mainly in the Ukraine game) they did quite well (Smalling was a bit hoof happy, mind). The issues were further up the field.

TBF of what I saw of them in this tournament (mainly in the Ukraine game) they did quite well (Smalling was a bit hoof happy, mind). The issues were further up the field.
