Is there any difference between a cheap one and a dear one?

I went to PC world today to get one and it was £40 for a 20M one , thought fuck that, got home checked on eBay, for a 20M one on eBay its less that £3! Is an eBay special going to be any worse than a £40 item?

In a word no. Although the RJ45 connectors on the end might be cheap ones and the plastic tab might break off. Will still work though.

Not all cables are the same though. Naturally you get some that are FAR better than others. But as Ian said, over such a short distance it won't make fuckall difference

Looking on the net, it costs about £15 for a metre of 10 gig cable

also anything utilising digital technology the associated cable makes even less difference with regards to its quality

Stick the word "digital" or "HD" on and charge 200% extra. I saw (tescos i think), a 3.5mm - 3.5mm stereo cable 1m was like £4.99. One had HD Super Audio Bollox on the lable and was like £22.99.

What? Do you mean over a short distance, or in general?

in general, distance isnt affected (to a degree) in a digital signal

doesnt matter of the quality of cable for say a hdmi cable, expensive one will make no difference to quality at any reasonable distances

Normally as long as you have sufficient conductor size any cable is equal to any other cable.

Yes I made a thread not too long ago about the cost of ethernet cables from PC World

Your best bet is to get them from somewhere like eBuyer.com, much cheapness and very good quality.

Tip - get ones with 'boots' on them.

That's true about HDMI. But we're talking ethernet here mate? And over long distances, the difference between Cat5e and Augmented Cat6plus is quite a lot In terms of Reflection Loss or XT anyway!

yeah i know was just making the point on the discussion of cable quality and added that digital cables are even less important with regards to quality and expense
