i had a job once that was smart/casual. assumed that meant jeans and polo etc (i was only 17) and when i arrived in jeans i was sent home to change as everyoen had proper trousers and shirts but no ties etc. i was lucky i was allowed to go back

Can depend of the age of the senior staff a bit. In our place smart casual just means leaving your tweed jacket at home
