when idle my rev counter bounces up and down any ideas plus my redtop doest seem as fast as other ones i had a 2.0 8v that was much faster

its under the inlet manifold jack it up and get it from underneath take it out and clean it up with carb cleaner or the likes

if the revs are not following suit to the rev counter bouncing about i had the same issue with me xe, turned out to be the throttle switch, it didn't bring up any faults codes and made the car very hesitant pulling off the line

Unplug the valve and see it it's any diffrent if not that's your problem
