A lad that works for me used to go to school with Carroll and reckons he has gone completely off the rails, the lad was an idiot and absolute liabilitity when he was with us but at least he had some loyalty to the club. Now he's earning nearly 10 times as much at a club that he only went to because he was forced out the door and apparently he's now doing his very best to emulate Gazza's career. I think there is little chance of him ever being a top class forward unless he sorts his head out.

He won't be with us in 2013.

See what happens with Carroll, lots of rumours more than anything else, but I do think he needs to sort his head out in terms of workrate, regardless of the off the pitch stuff. If he's not working hard on the pitch (whatever the reason) he will continue to sit on the bench.

To be honest the rumors coming out about his lifestyle at the moment mirror his actions and attitude during our season in the Championship where he very nearly went to jail. Thing was at Newcastle at the time all of the senior players and management rallied round him and made him see sense however I cant help feeling he's maybe been left to his own devices a bit too much at Liverpool.

He's a bit of an easy target for the press, yes Capello has said a few things and he's been dropped but if he didn't cost £35m he wouldn't be under anywhere near as much scrutiny and stories wouldn't have been spun in this manner (journalist comments unerlined, Capello's bolded):
Andy Carroll warned to get in shape by Fabio Capello
Matt Hughes Deputy Football Correspondent
1 minute ago
Fabio Capello told Andy Carroll yesterday that he must improve his fitness levels if he is to challenge for a regular place with England.
The Liverpool striker was not even on the substitutes’ bench for Friday’s 3-0 win over Bulgaria and is unlikely to be considered when Capello picks his team for tomorrow’s European Championship qualifier against Wales.
Capello was unimpressed by Carroll’s physical condition and general fitness during training last week and is understood to have concerns about the player’s lifestyle. The Italian warned Carroll that he must curb his drinking habits before handing him his first cap in a friendly defeat by France in November last year, but fears that the message may not have got through.
Carroll scored on his most recent and only second England appearance, in the 1-1 draw against Ghana in March, but has shown few signs of international class since completing a British-record £35 million move to Liverpool in January. The 22-year-old has not scored in the Barclays Premier League this season and was dropped to the bench by Kenny Dalglish for Liverpool’s last match, a 3-1 win over Bolton Wanderers.
Capello has also expressed frustration to his staff at Carroll’s apparent failure to work on improving his condition during the summer after being excused duty with the Under-21s on fitness grounds. Instead he went on a series of high-profile holidays and was photographed in Ibiza, Barbados and at the Glastonbury festival.
“Andy needs to find good form,” Capello said. “I chose 25 players and decided that the first XI would be the players who were, for me, in the best form.
“Andy didn’t play the last game with Liverpool and probably he is not at the top. Also he is big. He needs to play games, games, games. It’s the start of the season.
“At this time some players are really good and run a lot. When other players, like Andy, will be fit and at the top of their form, they will be important.”

England and Liverpool play better football when Carroll isn't playing, IMO. It's like when England used to pick Crouch then lump it forward to him.

exactly that Nath.
it's great to have him as an option, but crouch was only ever "great" for england when Becks was playing with him imo.
Would much prefer to see us play 4-2-3-1 with the front 4 as creative and attacking as possible.
