I took a pay cut (annually not hourly) of around 25% from cooking fish and chips to becoming a trainee surveyor, yet I do the same work as our normal surveyors.

AK - Yep, tell me about it
Spence - that's how it works these days tbh. People here are doing the job of someone two levels above them but on the same pay and original job title.

I generally get around 8-10% rise every 6 months, will flatten out after I finish training though - good whilst it lasts.

Only means an extra £50 take-home a month so barely noticeable
13k?! you on an apprenticeship?
I got a 52% pay rise from going into contracting
Nope, just work for a rubbish company. I spend basically the whole time doing CAD as well btw, so could probably get paid double elsewhere. I am looking for a new job, however not doing the same as I am now as I hate it.
Yep you could do a lot better somewhere else. What type of CAD work are you doing? Architectural? Engineering?

Building services engineering, I'm mechanical so do heating/vent/air con/domestic water/drainage etc drawings and often do designing too even though it's technically not in my job description I don't think.

Got 2.5% this afternoon, with no explanation as to why.

Something like 550% in January
3% in June and that's my load till next June. Here's hoping for a decent bonus!

You were either on peanuts or now a he'll of a lot! I got given a straight 1k in July and that's all in 3 years (fucking recession!) Don't even see any of it as student loans and pension seem to steal it, would have been nice to at least get a couple of curries out it a month lol.

being self emplyed you surely raise your own hourly or daily rate though
I.e in 1995 you charged £10 an hour.... you're not going to be still charging £10 an hour for your services in 2011 just because you're self employed.
