I always use American Crew Fiber, not wax but you can mould your hair into anything and its matte.

I also use AC Fiber but always mix it in my hands with a bit of schwarzkopf got2b glued so that it dries a bit stronger.

fucking hate that stuff you smell like a chip all day and it's a bastard to wash out! Had my hair cut today and I wish I'd ask what she put in it because it's perfect

If you don't like the smell, or the fact it's hard to wash out then you need the silver one with the blue writing... Easy wash out / nice smell...
Tbh that's all i can find now a days.
It's great stuff for SHORT hair, people who don't have short hair (and i mean short) can gtf because it's not for you.

I am really surprised no one has said vo5 texturising gum!!
I have used it for years, it smells nice and is completly matte, it is gum though, you could probably wear it foe days without washing your hair and it would still look as it was the day you put it in.
Only thing is you need to shampoo your hair dry or it won't come out once your hair is wet (properly anyway)
I tried matt clay and didn't think it was as good

Dax silver with blue writing, not as strong as the red one (prob 85% of the red one), easy to wash out (very) and doesn't give a chip pan effect as long as you don't slap too much on.
A single tub of this stuff lasts me about 9 months+
