I've got a packard bell laptop about 3 years old now and was on it this morning. Left it turned on whilst playing xbox and it went into sleep mode.
Clicked to turn it back on and nothing happened, had to hold the power button to force a shut down. Tried to turn it back on and it doesn't do anything. Black screen, power button glows then it restarts. Makes a noise as if the harddrive is being read but doesn't actually boot.
Have left it for over 30 minutes and it started up finally. It seems to be working fine once windows is running but if I turn it off I have to go through the same thing again, sometimes it does nothing and won't boot at all.
Anyone have any ideas what could be wrong?

Shut it down, battery out, press adn hold the power button for like a minute, leave the battery out and try again!

My old one did something similar except I can't get it to turn on at all. I could easily test it if I could get it apart but it's not obvious how to do it.

when it was off, (and wouldnt come back on again) was any lights flashing?
