Right need a new laptop and decided to look at the apple range. Through the refurb website I can get a 17 inch MacBook pro for 1599 but my question is are they really worth the money or would a windows laptop with an i7 processor etc be just as good?

Tit for tat, all depends on whether you want to pay a premium for it, i setup an Air today for one of our sales guys and thats a sexy bit of kit.

I find 17" laptops to big, Id go for a 15" with the high res screen

To put it straight you're paying for the looks and OSX when you buy a mac and tbh I love it, I despise using windows now, well I always did but OSX is great once you get used to it. I'm not sure they're worth the money but they are a great piece of kit.

I agree in part. In the lightweight laptop area i.e. Macbook Air they don't come with much of a premium. A similar windows laptop is virtually the same price, equally the higher end Macbooks are not that much more than similar Lenovo etc machines.

I think the middle ground you pay a premium but at the Macbook Air or 17" top end MBP its a more level playing field.

I have a 17" MacBook Pro. Fucking love it. Only had it a week and already decided I won't be going back to a Windows machine, ever.

Anything Windows based that is on par for about £800.00 at the most?

Needs to be able to run Football Manager and also needed for video editing

It's alright but there's a bit of a difference between a 1700 macbook and a 400 run of the mill laptop.

Which do you want?

Macs are designed well but spec-wise, you can get something the same (or slightly better) for a lot less cash.

What about an Alienware? They tend to be a third of the cost of a MBP, spec for spec, and you could always bung OSX if that floats your boat. They look a bit WOW player-esque though

Samsung 7 series might be worth looking at or Sony perhaps?

The MacBook is what I really want and would buy in a heart beat but my wife isn't very happy, we're trying for a family so she thinks I should have other priorities

i'd always choose shagging my wife, instead of buying a new laptop
