Have you given up with the Dell?

ASRock seem quite good, used a fair few of their boards in systems - both Intel and AMD.

Are you after two 'full-speed' PCI-E x16 slots (x16/x16)? Usually using dual cards, most motherboards will halve the speed on the slots (so x8/x8). Iirc, one of the only boards that doesn't is the Asus Maximus (has 3 x16 slots) but that's pretty pricey.
And from what i believe it's mostly P67/H67/Z68 intel chipsets that offer 6GB/s SATA 3 and even then most H67's only have a pair of SATA 3 ports (plus a few SATA 2 ports) whereas P67/Z68 boards usually have 3+.

Fast as I can for the money on the PCI-E slots. Only doing regular desktop stuff with them so a pair of 8x wouldn't disastrous if that is cheaper.

Socket 1155

How do I choose a chipset? Can I not just tell it which slots and RAM I want?

Not bothered P67/H67/etc. I've no idea what that means.

WTF neither Gigabyte nor Asrock allows me to tell it what slots I need.

Why on earth do I need to search by chipset? Not at all important to me.

Ring Scan, speak to the men, tell them your requirements and let them pick you one best for your needs.

Add their FB page and ask them on there, they usually answer pretty quickly.

ASRock Fatal1ty Z68 Professional Gen3

http://bit.ly/rpTLT0

Is one board that fits your requirements.

I can do a proper search for you tomorrow morning if you send me a U2U to remind me, and get you prices as well on various options.

Fatal1ty's tend to be around the £200 mark which is a fair amount on a motherboard.

That was just one example as I CBA checking what I can get at the moment due to me requiring sleep shortly.

I don't think he'd be able to get a cheap board anyway for what he wants it for TBH. There's cheaper ones than the one I posted as per your post, obviously.

Cheap 2x PCI-E board and a decent hardware 6GB/s raid card might be another solution.

I owned a suitable RAID card for a week but that didn't work with that Dell board either so it went back.

That was £150 though so worthwhile finding it on board.

My local place has Gigabyte GA-Z68MA-D2H-B3 in stock so might go for that.

From what I've read about the video, two slots at x8 will be fast enough.

OK got by new board and case.

Taken the fan off the old computer but where the cooler goes through the board I have just have threads, no way of fixing the cooler to the board.

Nothing to hand has a similar thread.

Guess I'm off to the shop for a new cooler tomorrow

Need one anyway so I can rebuild that Dell up and sell it but could have done with it just working.

Ian you should have just come to me and I would have sorted you out a system that didn't require you spending so much time/money to fuck about with it all

Got one off my dad but that's a different pitch circle.

Shop will need to order one.

Absolutely the worst computer in the world. Never known hassle like it.
