had a problem with the shower since we moved in.

we replaced the shower pump with the same model (bristan duraspeed 70) and it started off pretty good but now if you turn the pump on and then turn the shower on, the pump will turn itself off if you turn the lever too far other to the hot setting. it's fine if you want the water cold though.

it then makes awful screeching noises, so you have to keep turning the shower off and on (about 10 times) to get the pump to work properly.

is it just a crap pump?

it's also very noisey. are more expensive ones less noisey?

Sounds like it

Can you not get it replaced under warranty?

yeah but the new pump has gone the same way as the old one, so it'll probably be likely that another new one will go the same way

they want a drawing of how the pump is connected to the tank also, why would this be?

Might be worth getting it replaced under warranty and flogging the replacement on eBay or keeping it as a spare, and just get a better one?

No idea about your second question though?

BTW - I'm assuming they may want to know how you've got it set up so they can try and blame you for incorrect installation...

we have a switch in the cupboard that i switch on and off when i want the pump on/off.

is this not normal? thought it would be wiser to turn electrical things off around water.

update on this:

my dad rang the company up and asked an engineer for fitting instructions.

turns out whoever fitted the first shower pump, connected it up all wrong.

the hot water pipe to the pump was coming out straight from the top of the hot water tank (branched off).

this meant that it was mostly air that was going into the pump, causing aeration.

turns out you're supposed to connected it further down, so that the air goes up to the loft and the water goes down.

fine now and pump isn't knackered. lucky enough.

Yeah leave power on to the pump all the time, it should cut in and out when you turn the tap on and off.

the switch that turns the pump on and off (pump is wired up to this) has a light on to tell you it's on/off.

not bothered if it does blow, just seems a bit weird keeping a plug with a light on, on forever.

Ah got ya, thats just the neon indicator, quite normal to be left on, most cooker switches have them on too and most people leave their cookers switched on 24/7

You could change it for one without the neon if it bothers you mate
