Just had a go, haven't a clue what I'm doing. Literally just stuck and optical cable from the Onkyo to the back of the TV and left it at that.

Do you find when running Sky/Xbox through the Onkyo and back to the TV that the picture isn't as good?
Straight to the TV:
Through the Onkyo:
You can see the bright green squares on the left look more of a dull yellow, the white writing in the menus at the top is duller and doesn't stand out as much and it overall looks more 'dull' and less vibrant.
Sky is the same
Direct to TV;
Through the Onkyo:
You can see the colours are more washed out when going through the Onkyo....

i haven't really noticed, just wired it all up and used it.
Can you adjust the colour/brightness on the onkyo somewhere or have you tried that?

Nah there are no picture settings on the Onkyo at all. TBH I only noticed because I put xbox on and noticed COD didn't look right so switched the HDMI from the Onkyo to the TV and it was night and day.
When you go on brightness settings on MW3 the top box that says 'Barely Visible' is clearly visible when through the TV because I have it set to quite a high brightness whereas through the Onkyo you can't read it so there's definitely a difference.

Are you using a different HDMI port on the TV for the Onkyo?
It's very likely that your TV has different image settings depending on input. Might be that you've adjusted the settings for one input channel and not the other?

This is a good point! I'm using HDMI 1 from the Onkyo and HDMI2 when connecting the components up directly. Didn't realise the Samsung would remember settings based on each HDMI port.
