Are kindles backlit, or would you have to read in the light / turn a lamp on.

Read with lamp. Although you can buy Kindle cases with lights built into them.

Need some light, there are various cases. Amazon legit cases are nice but expensive (half the price of the kindle).

I tried a case with a small light but find it strains my eyes a little, just prefer reading with the lamp on.
