You may have seen my comfy car topic, I have been looking for a comfy diesel, under 1k that I can tow my Ibiza with. Now, Im starting to think that a bigger budget would help a lot here as the older diesels tend to be a bit under powered even if it was just another 1000.
So do I;
A, stick with current plan, but end up with something not completely ideal as it lacks power or has loads of miles on so might not be reliable
B, buy something else to run round in thats cheap to buy and run, then when it comes to summer or I start a placement I can save up for a better tow car, but then have the bother of selling a car, and not being able to tow straight away

any vectra/mondeo will surely be comfortable compared to what you're used to?
christ, they are used by taxi drivers who do tens of thousands of miles a year. they can't be that uncomfortable.

525TDS E39. Loads of torque so exactly what you need. Seen loads for £1500-£1800
Might be able to pick up a 530D with high ish miles for 2k

Can you tow a car trailer on your license?

Make sure it can pull whatever you have at the back, most trailers these days with ramps are around the 500kg mark and will carry up to 1.5t. Leaving you with approximately 1.5t for the tow car.
Oh yeah and you'll need B&E.

I know about all the rules around towing and licenses.
On normal license, you can tow anything as long as the train weight is below 3.5T, although the MAM of the trailer must be lower than the minimum weight of the tow car. So if you have a trailer MAM of 1.5T you can tow it with a car that has a minimum weight of 1.5-2T

What I put is for people with post 97 licenses. Once you have done the B+E test you can tow much more than a 3.5T train weight.
