Does anybody else feel like they spend half their life doing system updates?
I only use my PS3 once every couple of weeks but every fucking time I have to do a system update. I did one yesterday after a couple of weeks of not using it, now I need to do another today! Each one takes like 20 minutes.
Rant over.

had one last week but lately they have only been taking about 5 minutes to download and install so its not too much of an issue.
i see your issue though, only playing every now and again. and not being able to download it in the background... that should be changed

I've spent my last few 360 sessions doing updates
PS3 does seem to take an age.

Was doing my head in when I had a PS3 with the updates, took forever. Not the reason i went and got the 360, but when they do updates it's less than 5 minutes so not too bad.

I used mine for games pretty rarely which meant I had to sit around waiting every time I did.

The updates are tedious
But I heard they're quicker if done via USB stick

I did the update a few days ago and it took me all of 5 minutes to download and a few to install?
Who is your internet provider? When i was with BT they took forever but with Sky they take no time at all.

Used to have a PS3 and that's one of the reasons I don't now, Don't understand why they took so long either, have 10mb connection speed yet it would take hours, maybe the installing of the update on the drive was slow.
Waiting everytime you turned it on to play because of some update, need to make it so you can update ingame just like you do for steam games on the pc.

Yes, i find this. It's fucking annoying.
Not used the ps3 for a few weeks, fancy a quick game of GT5. Switch it on... end up waiting 30 mins for a system update... then go to start GT5 and wait another 30 mins for a GT5 update.
by this point I can't be arsed anymore.

If I fancy a quick game of FIFA, waiting 20 mins to play FIFA for 15 - 30 mins is significant.
Also, the iPhone comparison is flawed too. The PS3 won't let me go online unless I update and there are a LOT more PS3 updates than iOS updates.

When I last played GT5 it needed an update that was around 1GB, I bought BF3 the other day and that had a update almost 800mb. You will never download those in 20minutes.

You do realise you can set your PS3 to do auto updates? turns its self on and does the updates and then turns itself back off?
Ok that looks only to be available to plystaionPLUS.
