I'll be honest, I'm a bit useless when it comes to technology. I need a new laptop, it'll only be used for university assignments, storing photos and videos and the internet. So I don't need anything too fancy.

I currently have an ACER ASPIRE 5738Z. Intel pentium processor t4200 (2.0ghz) 4GB & 320GB HDD. It's about 3 years old.

Budget is around 400, preferably better spec than my current laptop, and ideally.. white

any suggestions?

There's a few I can get you:

Toshiba Satellite C660D-1EN

15.6" widescreen, AMD E-450 dual core CPU with AMD Radeon HD 6320 Graphics, 6GB RAM, 320GB HDD, Windows 7 Home Premium

£365 inc. VAT

HP 630

15.6" widescreen, Intel Core i3 370M dual core CPU, 2GB RAM, 250GB HDD, Windows 7 Home Premium

£375 inc. VAT

Samsung NP-RV520-A07UK

15.6" widescreen, Intel Core i3 2330M dual core CPU, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, Windows 7 Home Premium

£400 inc. VAT

Next day delivery on any of the above is £6 inc. VAT

(p.s. none of them are white, sorry - can't get hold of any white laptops, certainly not in that price range anyway)

Thanks sam. I think I'm going to go with the Toshiba Russ posted. If I change my mind I'll get back to you.

Out of curiosity, what's the price range on a decent white one? I'm not after a Mac btw.

Did the older ones not tend to be white? Maybe I'm more useless with this stuff than I originally thought.

About £600, similar spec to that Toshiba one you are buying.

There was also another one (Sony Vaio) which was cheaper but I can't get hold of them any more.

Older ones (in particular a lot of the Acer laptops funnily enough) were indeed white, nowadays they mainly come in just black or silver.

Edit - and the MacBooks that Russ just mentioned, forgot about those

Hopefully you won't suffer this problem - but some Toshiba laptops don't actually charge properly the first time you use them!

Trick is to just leave it to charge for a few hours and it'll mysteriously start charging properly.
