I am planning to fit an f18 gearbox to my car and just trying to compare the differences between the boxes but it doesnt make sense to me(gearbox newbie :lol
im not sure which f18 it is untill I pick it up this afternoon but:
F18w 3.58 1.87 1.23 0.92 0.74 3.33 3.55
F18c 3.58 2.14 1.48 1.12 0.89 3.33 3.55
what does the different ratios mean?
on the f18w the ratio is smaller, does this mean longer gear? thusfore slower acceleration?
It will be on a c20let, is it going to be noticeable between the 2 if I had an f18c and then fitted an f18w for example

the lower the ratio the faster the acceleration but lower the top speed

Other way round steve the higher the ratio the faster the acceleration the box will be.
2cnd gear on the f18 wide box is 1.87
for every one turn of the gearbox's input shaft you will get 1.87 turns to the output shaft
f18 close 2cnd gear is 2.14
for every 1 turn of the input shaft you will get 2.14 turns of the output shaft so the close ratio box is shorter and the output shaft is turning more so will accelerate quicker at the expense of top speed.
f18w is more suited to a let then f18c. the 5th gear on the f18w has a similer ratio as the f28 6th and you dont need the box to be as close ratio as you will have pleanty power.
also f18w is likely to last longer and cope with the torque better.
