So after selling the SRi after not too long, I decided I DEFINATELY wanted something completely different!
I looked around and i'd seen a few different types of car that I liked. But settled on this. Now there is alot of talk about being expensive to run and own, and I expect this with any performance car so I don't mind about that  but FOR ONCE I heeded the advise given too me and took a mate of a mate whos worked at Silverstone Autosport, a rotary specialist. He came to tell me if any problems if it will be something to worry about, but no issues an he just said put it in for a health check when I get it and all should be good but nothing obvious!
Sooooo......I've bought an RX-8 (231bhp).
But it's 55 plate, silver again, 22k miles, FSH, heated leather seats, Bose sound system, cruise control, 4 brand new bridgestone petenzas, xenons, spotless exterior also comes with a aftermarket catback already on, which sounds insane!! Don't know the make yet, but soon to be decatted also
Anyways, picked it up on Thursday with full MOT, and a months warranty.
However, because of the known issues with reliability, I've purchased one of those aftermarket warranties. It only covers parts and labour on non-consumables. But with the history of rotor tips going at 50k I didn't want to take the risk wasn't too expensive anyways, so DEFINATELY worth it
Oh and btw....I KNOW about the expense to run and the drinking oil, and the rebuilds etc, so dont need to remind me  haha

You can pick them up cheap mate definitely!
But bear in mind, they will need an engine rebuild at 50/60kish, and I get around 14mpg with a litre of oil every couple of weeks.
But if you pay abit more for a lower mileage, defiantly worth it

14mpg and 1 ltr of oil every two weeks, and shite engines ? You've listed three reasons why you should stay clear so why do you buy one?

Have you had a compression test done on it?
My mate bought one, I checked it over and everything ran sweet. Few days later the engine got warm cut out and wouldn't run when warm.
Engine was fucked needing a £2-3k rebuild. He got his money back and got a lad off the RX8 owners club to do a compression test on another RX. Results were good and he's had no problems with the car in the last year he's owned it.
Well the only issues he's had are crap mpg and he was turned it off when cold and flooded it
If the coils haven't been replaced resently i'd look at swapping them. They generally last 30k miles.

A 2-3k rebuild is impossible as a new engine is £1.5k.
As I say mate, I went with a rotary genius and he said it was all good and got a years warranty so its all cool

As long as your happy mate. I have to admit tho that 14mpg on a daily run is a hard hit on the wallet lol.

I didn't say a new engine was £2-3k did I? Think you'll find Hayward rotary will be charging you what I said for a rebuild.
Where can you buy a new engine for £1.5k?

Even if you get the engine for £1500, you still have a big labour bill at the end.
That's assuming you do a straight swap without any porting or tuning work.
Oh and cruise control will help get that MPG up to 20ish, assuming your commute is mostly motorway. Have fun with it anyway, just remember to ignore all the experts who have never owned or even driven a rotary, yet will insist on regurgitating "facts" from the internet.
