If you use a sponge you want to get one that has pretty open cells.
Use the two bucket method, Rinsing very regularly,
And wash in straight lines, not in circular motions.

Swear circular motions are supposed to be better, 'cus straight lines can lead to longer scratches. Where as circles keeps any scratches within a smaller area, hence easier to polish out.
Oh and i'm liking the sound of the 2 sponge method
