I mix trance and house as my preferred (only) music, but wanna branch out a bit. Some of the guys round mine are asking for dubstep now and again and usually get told to fuck off but I'm happy now and again to play what the people want but I don't have any of it!
So, what classic/popular artists songs and albums I should be looking into?

If you want old school Dubstep stuff like Digital Mystikz, Plastician, Benga, Skream, Kode9, Artwork, Silkie, and Mala there material is a far cry from the crud they call Dubstep now days though, if your going to pay for vinyl seeing as it sounds like your a DJ be prepared for eBay sellers charging through the roof

Its more of a double edged sword i suppose carry around a heavy load of vinyl and eqiupement for quality or settle with practicality and ease of use with slight less quality, preference i suppose but ever since i got myself some turntables and vinyls ive been addicted although its only for me and personal use more than anything.
The few DNB/Jungle sets ive been to always have vinyl dj's although they probably have flunkies that carry their gear

I don't mind the odd Dubstep tune, but Skrillex is absolute dogshit.

i find it difficult to look past my hatred for the guy and as a result labelled all dubstep as shite without listening to any of it

It's like he has found the knob named 'Dubstep' and turned it up to 11.

Try the the Digital Mystikz one, alot different from the silly, loud robot noises Skrillex etc use more Garage and Raggae inspired.

Skrillex is awful i saw some thingy online were he even says his music isnt Dubstep, his fans still continue to tarnish the genre's name though

JamesMc talks sense. For drum and bass, look into anything from these record labels.
Playaz
Metalheadz
Critical
Hospital
Ram
Shogun Audio
All vary in their sound and style.

I don't think he's awful, his music is VERY creative to be fair, and I agree It isn't dubstep

These are probably the worst recommendations I've ever seen.

Now this guy knows what he's talking about.
Anything from Deep Medi is where it's at, or Swamp 81 which is more influenced by house in general.

Even more so, broken drum's bass drive sets are brilliant - http://www.liquiddnb.com/mix/brokendrum-liquiddnb-show-on-bassdrive-125
