VGA is probably the most common option.
if its older it might have S video or if its newer HDMI.

just HDMI lead to the tv, unplug whatever that HDMI in the TV goes into and plug it into the laptop

And will only work.if your laptop has HDMI out on it. Otherwise need a VGA to HDMI cable

Havn't been able to watch any tv since Tuesday because kids kicked a football off the sky dish and broke it
At least now we can watch something until sky get there arse out and fix it.

Nope, VGA is an analogue signal and HDMI is digital. The two protocols are completely different.
