The situation is my grandads brother bought a brand new honda jazz from a honda dealership just under 2 years ago. And now with just 4700miles on the car all 4 tyres have cracked between the tyre treads round the intire circumfrence of the tyre. There basicly knackered and 2 of them actually lose air as a result and i am sure the other 2 will soon follow. He took the car back to the dealership and they basicly just said he has to buy new tyres.
Anybody else think these is rediculas?
What do you think the dealership should do? I would say when you buy a new car you should get atleast 3 years of trouble free motoring nevermind replacing tyres.

Tyres unfortunately wear and it's not just dependent on mileage, so yeah I doubt the dealer will even contribute

I think buying new tyres after 2 years is fair enough.
Cars sitting doing nothing can cause problems.

Tyres is basic maintenance, can't expect the dealer to pay for that

The tyres must have about 5 or 6 mm of tread. They look like new tyres but basicly have just split and are losing air.

I understand its very common for tyres to split after a period of time but less than 2 years? Really??

Tyres Usually only last about 3 years but as said if its only done 4700 miles it's obviously been sat a lot which will do it no good.
Bet the guys in the dealer ship had a good laugh about it though.

The car gets used everyday just doesnt go far. I thought it was rather unusual but clearly not. Lol

My mums Freelander is the same, loads of tread but the sidewalls are cracking. Same reason, car doesn't go anywhere.

A lot older, 2005, but its already had tyres once and they're going again.

Why don't you speak to the company that makes the tyres. Tyres are consumable parts.

what brand is the tyre?
not that it makes much differencei am just interested, you've no leg to stand on, two years and 5000miles says it all, not a great deal of use!
tyre are consumables as mentioned and i would expect nothing from a dealer if i were in the same sitation.
just out of interest i've worked out the following
if as you say the car has been used "everyday" that is 4700miles/730 days = 6.4 miles a day.
making the assumption that the 6.4 mile trip is a A>B and then B>A thus a round trip 3.2 miles is barely enough use to get the engine to its full operating temperature - so i would be looking at other issues on top of the tyres based on those figures

They are dunlop sp sports. Yeah scott the cracks go right through the tyre and air is seeping out over a couple of weeks
