I'm after a shift worker app for my iPhone that I can have my shifts and the wife's on the same calendar rather than separately? Currently got shift life but can't do that

Google Calendar + Google Exchange Calendar Sync on iPhone. You can share your calendar with other people.

If my wife puts something into her calendar it appears in mine and visa versa

Can't you just add the calendar to the phone (under email accounts) as a new exchange account and get away without the app?

Yup - you don't need the account - By "Google Exchange Calendar Sync " I mean sync with google calendar using the exchange server for google
