I'll keep this as short and sweet as possible, I thought someone on here might know the best route to take.

2 years ago, I scrapped my car so that my girlfriend got £2000 off her new car, which meant that the car is in my name.
She had a personalised number plate on her old car, which was put on retention when she sold the car.
Now that her 2010 car is no longer 'new' she wants to put the personalised plate on it.
The main problem is that the plate is in her name and the car is registered in my name and we'd ideally not want to change the owner on the V5, so that it doesn't add another owner i.e. when she sells this car, she wants it to have only had 1 previous owner.
My question is basically, what is the best way to get the personalised plate on her new car?
Should we both go down to the DVLA with ID, so they can do it there and then? Can we change the name on the V5 without adding another previous owner? Does she need to put the plate on retention in my name, so it can be done by me?

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated

Afaik you can put it on as it is. Doesn't matter if plate is in different name to car. My sister has her plate on her car which is technically registered to her husband. Should be fine.

You can assign the plate to a nominee which can be different to the person that owns the plate. From what I can remember you just need to fill in the section on the form then take that to the DVLA/send it to your local office.

All should be explained on the back of the retention doc.
