Its pretty crazy! Even over in Oz they are crazy for the Queen, its MILES away, dunno how Britain still have anything to do with this country!

I was watching this documentary that was on BBC One a while back about the British Empire, and some of the people in the countries that have since gained independence claim that their countries have actually benefited from Britain reigning over them during the times that happened as it's helped modernise their countries and open them up to new trade etc.

BTW - to answer your question, Australia (like many former empire countries) is part of the British Commonwealth hence why Britain is still involved.

Yeah I know its still in Commonwealth, but surprised they haven't moved away from it! Quite interesting that Canada's flag used to have the Union Jack in it too. Apparently it was only in 1987 when the British Government had no further rule in Oz!
