I'm looking at a Prepaid currency card for going away, as my bank has a rubbish exchange rate and then charges to change to change to euros too.

i want to start off with an amount on a card, then be able to schedule money via internet banking to be added on to it while im away (get paid a few days into our holiday)

been looking at the travelex card where you purchase the amount in euros 1.196 but it charges a 2% fee to add extra funds, and alternatively their globe card keeps it in sterling but charges 1.49% for each transaction you do. i also wanted the card so i wasn't carrying loads of cash around.

anyone used one?

I'm using a Caxton FX Dollar Card at the minute. I opened it with $200 if I remember right and I've just gradually loaded it over the last 6 months.

Free to load, free to use at ATM's and free to use as a debit card. Only fee's come with cashback and domestic usage.

Seems like a faf, I'd just take euros and my bank card (which is exactly what I've done every time actually)

Aye Currency Card exchange rates are hard to beat. If you're spending thousands abroad then it would be silly to just use your normal bank card.

A few hundred on a long weekend is maybe different though!

I've just got back from Spain today and the lads walked half a mile down the road to get 1.22 rather than 1.17 at the hotel, then changed £200 so made a tenner! I just went to the hotel

Do you know if you can schedule payments for future dates in the Caxton online area? Can't see an option where it would let me do it by my own Internet banking

Not sure about the schedule, I just did it manually every payday.

Sister took this to America a few months ago, same situation as you, had to load money on a few days into holiday. Don't think you can schedule payment but she did it on her phone via the website.

Ive always took my card and some cash as the rate has been better than any pre paid card or exchange bureau.

I did it from their website. You can also text them or phone them to add funds.
