I have been considering a new car and I believe it is time to start saving.

I am 18 and am 19 in July I have 2 years no claims as 1 year came when i was driving on provisional.

Insurance for my 1.2 16v is 1k atm.

The insurance for the next car can come to about £1500 pounds and the budget which I would set will be between 1-2k.

I want something a bit faster and preferably a hatchback.

I was thinking something along the lines of a Honda EG, I don't want anything french as my last two were pieces of shit.

Thoughts ?

Thanks.

Your age and insurance is seriously going to limit your options. Maybe something like a MK4 Astra SRI.

Don't spend as much on insurance as the car is worth.

Really?

I had 2 peugeots, one was a 106 and it had a handful of problems while my 206 1.4 headgasket went a month into owning it.

My good ol' vauxhall hasn't let me down yet.....

Sport will be more modern. Chances of finding a decent sport are higher. Unless owned by someone who loves it most gsi's are rotten as fuck nowadays. If you are that bothered buy a sport and fit a gsi kit.

I was going to suggest a clio 172 until I saw the no frenchies thing but if you're willing to give them a go, I would go and test drive one of those.

Clio 172 is out of the question, insurance would be 2k.

Ahhh I see thanks for the explanation, I heard finding a decent gsi is pretty hard.

Yea well like i said I have 2 years no claims already and in april it will be a third, I am doing it on admiral as if I am 19 now and with 2 years no claims and these are the prices I am getting.

Incredible that my insurance drops by about 300-400 quid just for being a year older.

I think it will be the vtr I get or the gsi/sport.

Thanks all

IMO wait another year until your 20/21, save a bit more then get something better than a GTi, GSI, VTR, Sport etc.

This not only allows you to go and buy a newer more powerful better car but the insurance will be even cheaper!
Only say this because i regret not waiting and buying/modifying various 'shit' cars only to not have saved anything. Im 26 and while my insurance has been 'cheap' a while im still saving for that perfect car while plenty of my friends drive around in BMW's, R26's 197's RS' ST's VXR's Type R's etc etc

Will be worth it in the long run IMO. not only will your insurance go down because of age but how long you've owned the car to.

Honda with a D16 engine. Still 130bhp and a lot cheaper than a B16!
