What have you gone for and why? How much did it cost? I'm currently building an x16xe, looking at putting it on bodies eventually or to try and turbo it, still a student so tryin to do things cheapish.

Your best bet is to try and find second hand SBD set-up for that engine. Which comes with MBE. Nice bits of kit, I had it on my XE.

i bought KMS when i had my throttle bodied x20xev astra, guy i had mapping the car was very familiar with it as it was what he used on his track car although he could have used anything that i bought he said that was ample enough for what i needed, sure i picked the ecu loom and software up for £300 on ebay was just lucky i suppose

Can get all the bits a lot cheaper than sbd prices, but sbd saves a lot of messing around!
With management ask who you are getting to map it what they prefer and go with that, will get better results that way.
Omex 600 or gotech pro would be my choices on the x16xe on bodies, i ran an x16xe on bodies with gotech pro and a pro x. Can get excellent t power from these engines.

Im using DTA S40Pro on my x20xev jenvey 45mm bodies, got the complete kit from QED for under £1200 new, loom, ecu, coil pack, fuel presure reg, bodies, all the leads and software for mapping. Stealth Racing in southam warwickshire are regaurded by DTA as the best in uk for live mapping of thier ecu's. spewak to vince at stealth he realy knows what dta can do and does rip people off. He maps my corsa B and doesnt charge for minor tweaks after.

can't remember how much my emerald was maybe 600 bought it as at the time dta s40 was similar price yet i can have 3 maps on emerald and with the loom it worked out cheaper than dta s40.
best bet is to find where you want it mapped and ask what they prefer to use.

Find a place that'll use mega-squirt, then get them to buy the management and install it for you, will probably be around £600-700 in total as the management is cheap! There's a place in Reading that does it... http://www.rollingroadtune.co.uk

My matees megasquirt kit cost around 160quid, I made him a good quality loom (using new plugs), and northhampton motorsport mapped it for 300ish quids.
Simple to use, just hassle that most places won't touch it.

Omex 600 for me as it came with the car.
My loom was built by Martin from MEF Motorsport (DTA Agent) and myself for around £100 and a few hours of our time.
Engine was mapped by Will Pedley of Will Pedley Racing in Blackpool for not alot of money (mates rates).
My advice is pick the ECU which is the easiest for you and your mapper of choice to use and that falls within your budget.

I'm on Motec M400 and use Motec CDL3 dash with all sensors, loom and labour and parts £7,300 give or take
Mapping, cam timing, moving sensor at Owen developments £650
Standalone is pricey if done to a high spec...

Same as Nic for me but Omex.
Omex sub-loom was £60 and £30-40 for all the junior powers and heatshrink required.

Some one who obviously has no clue what they are talking about.
If you do abit of research the new megasquirt is better speced than your omex 600 tbh,
And the others do the same job with almost the same spec for a third of the price,
Don't trust internet rumours.
Most mappers don't want to touch it down to people being shit at putting the ecu together/not being capable of doing simple wiring like building a loom.

2 years or so ago when I last used the program for mega squirt it was shockingly shite compared to anything else around.

Which one did you use?
As I used to use mega tune and tbh yes it is wank,
Tuner studio is a lot better and my mapper says it's no harder to use than the rest, he was worried I was going to turn up with megatune lol!
but there's a few different programmes you can use on megasquirt, a few of the 'brand' name ecu's are basically tweeked megasquirts.
And you get the benefit of constant improvement with it,
But the lack of back up is the biggest catch.
