DESPERATLY need to know a step by step guide to removing a x14xe starter, and obviously getting a new one back on :/

just taxed and insured the car.. so im skint, or i would just take it to a garage. i have a basic knowlage of motors, nothing special tho.

Easiest way is from underneath the car at the back of the engine. Its held on by a 13mm bolt and a stud with a 13mm nut. If you've got the standard inlet on its a bit of a nightmare to get to the stud as its on the top of the starter.

what about removing the inlet?

Disconnect your battery first, undo the 13mm (live wire) on the back of the starter and undo the 8mm/10mm also. Unbolt the starter by removing the 13mm bolts holding it in place and bobs your uncle!

is it really as easy as thhat.. i had a mate say its a bitch to do on the 16v?

it is a bitch to do though possible. get a long ratchet extension to get to the top bolt, access is very limited due to the inlet pipe and hard to get from the top due to the throttle body. try to feel for the earth wire is attached to the top bolt then go from there. the bottom one is easy enough to get to as are the wires
