Going to look at an Ibiza FR 1.8T 150bhp very shortly!

What are the main things to look out for? It's an 06 plate and only done 20k miles, need to make sure the timing belts been done, and to check the turbo i need to make sure theres no blue smoke?

He's putting it through an MOT if i buy it so i technically shouldn't have to spend anything on it for a year unless anything goes wrong with it

electrical faults; ensure that every switch does what its meant to.

Alarm box under the bonnet often fills with water if its the same as the other VAG variants.

When you do go for a look over it, take note of things you think it will need for an MOT and keep hush. Then if you decide to buy it etc, when you go to pick it up, check the things that you took note of. You never know, he might have a mate who's an MOT tester and just put a ticket on it without even looking at it.

Selling a car, then putting a years MOT on it for the buyer is a good way to throw them off things it might need. Alot of people will think, "yay, its got a years MOT, everything should be fine".

Right, just got back from looking at it.

Theres no record of the timing belt being done, am i right in saying it's due every 120k/4 years?
It's missing last years service in the service book.
Got a bit of a scuff on the rear bumper which may polish out with some decent compound.
Nearside front alloy is pretty badly kerbed all the way round, he said he'd get that sorted out.

Reckon it's worth a bit less than £4500 if it had the timing belt kit done?

get him to knock a bit more money off it. no matter who buys it, its still going to need a service and cambelt

If its pre facelift then its too much, around 3500 would be a good price.

Bushes are prone to going, put some weight onto the spokes of the wheel, if it moves a fair bit, the bushes are probably gone

So it is every 4 years then, supposedly it wasn't registered till 2008 as it's an ex demo model, but i'm guessing it'll still have been used between 06 and 08 therefore the 4 years will still be from 2006. Timing belt kits seem to be about £200 as well, so i'd probably be happy with getting it at £4000 and i'd sort the timing belt and service out myself

I didn't get chance to drive it because i haven't sorted some kind of day insurance on it yet, he's getting it valeted and the alloys sorted then said to come back for a test drive and we can sort it all out from there.

I have driven one before, which was nice to drive apart from the knocking noise coming from the suspension that the seller wasn't sure what it was

Yeah that was my thread

On the face of it you were wrong at first, but with the fact the timing belt hasn't been done and the couple of marks that need sorting, now you're right

was the knocking noise coming from the rear suspension?

rear axel bushes are well known for going even with low miles.

You would be aswell factor in the cost of a water pump too when doing the timing belt, around £50 I think

I have never known the rear beam bushes go, the bushes on the rear of the front wishbones are shite and go all the time
