I was up at a localish tuners today with my mate and he had a bit of an issue with his car (mk1 LCR). His eml was on due to the decat pipe and he was supposed to be gettin it mapped out. The guy said the map that was on it (giac star performance map) that they locked the ecu and it wouldn't read it. So we left and drove off and my mate noticed straight away the massive drop in power. It turned out they wiped the map completely off the ecu returning it to standard. The map that was on the car from near new has never caused issues with the car. The guy was stumped when we went straight back and told him what happened and he spent over an hour trying to work it out but we eventually had to leave the car there and take home his octavia Vrs till he got it fixed. The only thing is they are charging him for a new stage 2 map. Surely this must be done for free???

Well if he was getting de-cat removed then probably would have to re-flash a new map on anyway?

Take it he didn't know it was a star performance map as the best bet would've been take it there for them to adjust it really?

Shouldn't have wiped it really, that's their mistake. Although star performance will charge you to sort map out for a de cat etc anyway.

Of course he took it back, it was mapped before he took it to them and standard once we left after the guy saying the ecu couldn't be read.

Nic - the reason he went to this place is that it was local and after a conversation with the guy he said it was only needing a tweek to the map to get the light out permanently and that it wouldn't affect the performance.

Shouldn't they of read the map that was n the ecu, changed the relevant values for the 2nd lambda and reflashed it back up so in theory still mapped. Don't see why they would reflashed a standard map onto the car :s

Haven't Star Performance stopped doing mapping now? So couldn't take it there anyways!

Bit of a bummer, but can't see them doing it for free.

if the ECU is locked by a previous mapper then unless they give you the password (which they wont - to protect their intellectual properties) the only way to do it is to reflash the whole unit.

i know this from first hand experience as the motec on my car was locked and i had to send it back to Motec europe to be flashed and have a base map put on it, then i had to get it remapped again with a new map

He's just off the phone to the guy and he said told him that he thinks it's revo software that's on it and that the car goes into limp mode if anyone tries to read it. Can this be the case you think???

I was being serious. They wiped the ecu, so should fix it, and not charge.

Chill out weirdo

Whatever pal. That looked a serious post right enough. Tit.

Anyways this isn't a post to argue with the like of you so back on topic.

I said to him about going somewhere else but he doesn't see why he should if they've made the mistake. Now there saying that the ecu will have to be taken out the car and opened up to be remapped. Surely this can't be right as it has the OBD2 port for this???

Some places have to map them on the bench, it depends what hardware/software they have.

They made a mistake, there should be no charge to fix it, imho.
If they won't then make a complaint and/or sue.

Ps. There's no need for the personal attacks. I hope your mate gets it sorted

If the ECU is being a bitch and locking him out he will have to take it out and bench flash it with an MPPS he should'nt have to physically open it up though.

Surely it has to be replaced like for like, or as close to like for like as possible.

Bit like taking your car to a garage to get fixed, and they break something in the process. You sure as shite wouldn't need to foot the bill for there mistake.
