I'm in need of a new car due to taking a new job which will mean I'll be doing about 400 miles a week, with 300 of them on the motorway! So ideally looking for something cheap to insure, tax and most of all, run. Budget of 3-4k.
Looked at Astra (H), Megane (1.5dci) or the Fiesta (MK5, TDCi engines). Any other ideas/recommendations?

Mk6 fiesta tdci ticks all those boxes. 50+mpg, £30 a year tax and cheap insurance depending on your personal status. They look great as well. The only downside I have on mine as the 5sp gearbox, even tho it probably doesn't need a 6th it just feels a bit strange not having one. I still try and change up after driving it for nearly 3 years

Colin I'm not in my late 30's or early 40's in a mid-life crisis!
Eck I do that in the corsa sometimes, sat at 50 @ 2500 rpm wanting to go to 6th!
Both the Megane and Fiesta are £30 tax, will have to test drive both and see which are best.
Anything else?
