Car stereo?
That cable should work anyway! You mean 3.5mm jack to the red and white RCA?

Sounds like it should work. Check your headphone socket with some headphones.

Works with headphones not a problem!
I've tried (on the stereo) plugging it in to Aux IN and Aux out and headphone socket but not a thing.

Nath, not being funny but you did connect the lead to your stereo jack on the laptop and not the microphone, right?
Also, check the volume is turned up on the laptop too.
The problem is to do with your laptop not the cable or the stereo by the sounds of things (excuse the pun).

?ou sure you didnt try it to AUX IN and not AUX OUT. If not you can get a 3.5mm to RCA cable off ebay for a few quid which should do it providing you have a red and white input on the back of the stereo

Yup used the Headphone socket with Sound at max Still didn't work! Don't matter I'll listen to it through the tinny built-in speakers.

Did you use a cable as in Tony's link?
If so, it really is just a matter of plugging it in an choosing the correct channel.
The stereo won't auto detect the channel, so you'll have to choose it manually.

This is where you want it. The other two you mention are outputs.
The stereo will have an Aux channel you can choose.
Check list if it still doesn't work:
Turn up volume on stereo and PC
Check mute isn't turned on on stereo or PC
Turn on stereo and PC...

Are you using the head unit that came with your vRS as standard? If so, is it called "Dance"?

As above, just a 3.5mm jack cable, plug one into headphones of laptop, one into stereo AUX port. Set stereo to 'AUX' or 'AUX IN' and play music on laptop - ensuring that volume isn't muted.
