As above , anyone got aluminium doors and windows in domestic property? Views on it ? PVC I think are crap and wood is too high maintenance. Any views on the suitability in a domestic house

They're fucking expensive, especially the doors.
Miles better than PVC in terms of security and finish, but you get what you pay for. 4 windows, one french door and a front door in alli came to £5k+ here

this
Brown however is more expensive than white
They do some very nice colours now in uPVC
Oak and rose wood is very nice - would be my choice if I was replacing windows
I recently replaced our patio door in the kitchen with french doors and went brown outside and white inside

I think they look alot better than PVC .also PVC doors are a load of shite. It's a toss up between PVC windows and wood doors or full aluminium . After triple glazed too had anyone got triple glazed and how much different with sound level did you notice?

As much as it pains me to say it you can get some really good PVC windows now and they are dirt cheap. I doubt I could buy the materials to make a timber one for less than they are punting PVC windows out for.
There are other options for doors though, most of which are much better than PVC. Companies like Rock Door make some great doorsets.

Dont go buying anything yet, i can get the units cheaper than you'l find anywhere if you go PVC.
Go brown PVC windows and proper sold wood doors imo

A bit of advice does no harm.
Loads of people do things to their homes without consents.

Depends where you go for pvc stuff. I have my own family busines manufacturing pvc windows.doors.and.conservatories and if you dont.cut corners teyvare every bit as good. Problem is everyone is trying to undercut the next one and they have to.cut corners to make money. Metal reinforcing is practically the same pric as the pvc now so alot of companies ar cutting right back on it to stay competetive. Same as cars you get what you pay for

I'm just trying to find prices for 2 windows and a door for a porch I am building. A few of the companies I have been looking at are
http://www.upvcdoubleglazing.biz/DIY-Double-Glazing.aspx
http://www.diyupvctradewindows.co.uk/
http://windowsanddoors.co.uk/estimate/
Any pointers on places to look?

Not if the manufacturer is FENSA and fitted by an approved installer iirc
