Badically was chatting with my mates the other day , and we was all saying people that buy old cars and are spending big money buying them are mad. Tbh maybe just us as were all drifting away from the modified car scene and all have normal standard cars now , but personally i do think people are mad spending 4 or 5 k on somthing thats 20 years old and relistically is worth fuck all , i do think its mad where people pick these valuations of there cars from , just because somthing isnt standard doesnt automatically make it worth more , does it ?

Depends what you term mad, and what your motives are for buying it.
Anyone who bought an Escort Cossie for 8k isn't mad because it'll now be worth 18k.
A lot of old Fords are in that position.
Racing Pumas for example, £3k for a shitter, £6k for a tidy one. They're going back up next five years.
Also when is it worth nothing? If its modified it'll be worth more in bits, so strip instead of selling it.
There's dead money but there's also reasons to do a lot of it.

In a lot of cases older cars are worth more in standard form, minis etc
I buy older cars, but cheap older cars as many of my mates do, I don't see the point in spending 4 or 5 grand on any car, new or old to be honest. And its not that I couldn't afford to.
Although that c20let Nova in the other thread could be very tempting lol

All cars cost money,
So buy a brand new car & watch it loose £££'s each month or buy an old one and possibly spend a bit more to keep it going, its not that different.
My 15yr old M3's not needed anything doing in 7 months, I now cant seem to sell on the bugger for sensible money though!!

what age does a car have to be, to be old?
i paid £8k for a brand new fiesta with 80bhp and 6.5k for my z4 with almost 3 times the power and a nice folding roof.
the fiesta is ideal for shopping but doesn't have the fun factor.
if i wanted to buy a new z4, i'd be spending 30k+ which is just not viable for me.

As for value its purely supply V's demand. Just because you wouldnt pay £k's for it doesnt mean someone else wont.
In the same light that person probably wouldnt spend whatever you did for whatever you own.

I fully understand what your all saying and can agree with most of you , like now days u can get old m3s and mercades and all sorts of other things for a fraction of the new retail price they were when they was new , but to me seems mad spending big money on summin like a puma or a old nova/corsa , 106 or things alike

Obviously modified cars are tottally different when comin to value them , im sure nic barnes or bigron will never get anywhere near the money back when selling the car as a whole and will always be worth more to sell in bits

Anyone can afford finance repayments on new cars. Not many can afford to build cars.

Think my M3 was £42k new & I paid less than a months wages for it
I like the experience of something older now & then, its more entertaining to drive. Ive got a 12 plate 318i for doing the shopping.

Bought a corsa brand new in 2001 (Corsa C in silver)- for around 7.5k
Then a 2003 Accord for 7k (Accord Sport in black)
Then another Accord (2004) Tourer for 4k
Now on a 2002 Lexus IS300 that I payed £1800 and prob spent about £700 on it in 7 months (excluding Tax and insurance) and to be honest, most of it was serviceable parts and general tiding up anyway which can only increase the value of the car or help it retain value.
I have been tempted to buy a brand new audi and use the Lexus as a deposit but I have to say....this is the best car I have owned! It is simply a beast.
Its done 135k miles and I will probably sell it once done about 150k I reckon and look for something else to tickle me fancy

I don't understand what on earth your going on about. How can something someone paid 5k for be worth fuck all? It's worth 5k as that is the price some one has paid
It might not be worth that to you but your not the one buying it.
Do you have any examples?
