why would hmrc contact you by email? they'd send you a letter. unless youve ever directly provided an email address and specifically requested email correspondence. in which case theyd ignore you and send you a letter

I can't imagine them sending you an email even if it was genuine.

Plus the email is hrmc and it should be hmrc

google it, theres a section on the HMRC website even showing what email address's they scams use and that they will never contact you by email

I had one last week (3 weeks after getting a genuine refund from them so I did think it was genuine and I was due more) but decided to check first. When it says click here the link will probably but you to a site that looks like your online banking site (dont know if it actually is or is maybe a way of them obtaining your details when you enter them)

Give them some of these details

Account Name: HMRC VAT
Sort Code: 08 32 00
Account Number: 11963155

Account Name: HMRC Shipley
Sort Code: 08 32 10
Account Number: 12001020

Account Name: HMRC Cumbernauld
Sort Code: 08 32 10
Account Number 12001039

See if they pay themselves or if a scammer tries to rip off HMRC

I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.
