I've been looking at buying a car for a while and I've ended up seriously considering an S13. I'm looking for a bit of advice really, I'm not dead clued up on them. So far I've been searching on pistonheads and auto trader - if anyone could sugggest sites where they're for sale it'd be appreciated. What are the best ones to go for, year wise and why? What's insurance like for people?
Basically any sort of advice would be greatly appreciated so if you own or have owned one how do/ did you rate it?

Ive you can stretch to one get an s14, come with much stronger engines.
The ca18det's that the 13's come with dont like abuse as much as the sr20's that come in the s14's.
But other than weal engines all you really need to look out for is rot.

That was a typo, it's the 14s I've been looking at with the SR20DET. Seen some nice examples kicking about and they seem like cars I'd like to own, I just need to read up on them a bit more. I'll have a look on those sites HarleyMK cheers mate.

Get yourself signed up on the sxoc mate its a really good forum.
Any questions ask away, I've got an S14a and its amazing, highly recommended and they're knocking around the £2500 mark for a decent one.
I'm 23, 4years NCB, 6 points, £830FC with Adrian flux.

correct
but it's worth it as there is A LOT for sale on there, I wouldn't bother buying one from elsewhere personally.
Have a look through the buyers guide linked off that page and there is some other good info on there too.

Nice one Sean thanks bud.
Had a few spare minutes and got a quote from HIC of £1300 FC which I thought was ok, 23 with 3yrs no claims and 3 points. How does that compare with others?

I gotta quote on one a few weeks ago.
30 yrs old, 5 years NCB, SP30 and the cheapest was around £650 3rd Party F&F.
That was the S13 1.8 Turbo btw.

Going to view this one this weekend (need to be logged in to see, I'll c+p the ad if anyone else is interested) http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/showthread.php?536743-My-1999-s14a-stage-1a-in-red-for-sale
Looks great, red is my preferred colour and the S15 interior is different. Local as well so fingers crossed it's as good as it looks.

Looks good. Make sure it's not boosting over 1.0bar ish as that's a bigger turbo than that chipset is designed for.
Will benifit from some coilovers as well as stock dampers are tripe.
Also check in front of the rear wheel arches as that's where they rust really bad.

Cheers for the advice again, I'll be sure to check those couple of things. How much do a good set of coilovers usually go for?
