They sell these at the local random bits shop. You'd find this kind of thing in poundland or places like that.

hmmm
dont know if a inch wide is abit too wide still
basicly he is makeing a RC car dyno for a uni project
so needs something to strap it down with, we have used springs underneath to hold it on and it works very well but takes away some of the power off the reading when the string stretches, cant get a spring tight enough and small enough to hold it still with some of the cars weve tested :/

mini ones have a tendancy for the ratchets to buckle if you put any real strain on them.
I wouldnt want to rely on them for fixing anything down on the back of a van / flat bed etc.

cant use cable ties ivi the heat off the exhaust/engine melts them or weakens them and they stretch or they just plain snap
especialy after a few runs, weve had some get away buggys haha
bart, there not for anything like trucks or van work
just for a rc dyno

I'd be taking the wheels off and taking the reading direct from the hub.

How are you tying it down, surely if you have the rope/string etc at the right angles then it should be able to restrain an rc car easy enough.
Could even use tent lines imo, they shouldn't have much stretch

small chain
I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

I was going to try and blag some of these from bentley when I went in there the other day, White ones with bentley embroided into them, They use them to strap the cars into shipping containers.

Thought about doing that but it means alot of messing about when it comes to makeing the bits to actualy take the readings if that makes any sence?

Bungee cords?
There too stretchy mate so they loose power from the readings

havnt thought about tent lines tbh, but he wants it as professional looking as possible realy
so not sure if just string will look good enough tbh
