Theres a computer loan thing at work for up to £750 over 2 years, buy the kit, show reciept and get money back on pay day.
Sounds good.
But now also includes ipads.
So, looking at shiney 64gb retina ipad, and also like the idea of apple tv.
Is apple tv literally what it sounds like? Whatever im doing on ipad will appear on the tv that the unit is plugged into? Quite like the sound of this if i can get a keyboard and mouse? Be handy i think.
Any other must have accessories? Deffo want one of those folding cases and an adapter to use on my current plugs etc.

You need to read up on what it is you're buying.

Yes, Apple TV will show anything that is on the iPad screen, but at a lower resolution.
You do not use a mouse for an iPad, it has a touch screen.
Which tasks do you expect to perform on your iPad and what do you expect to show on the TV screen?

Does the 18 month old one do something that warrants it costing as much as a brand new one?

It was a half genuine question.
The new one has better hardware doesn't it. Might as well sell it while you can, values will surely plummet as soon as a jailbreak comes for the new one.

Yes ATV2's have been worth more than the 3rd gen since the 3rd gen came out pretty much.
Also, noone as far as I'm aware is working on the ATV3 JB. Musclenerd and Planetbeing reckon its the most secure of all the Apple products which makes it very difficult to JB, makes sense since I'd imagine the 'surface area' to find exploits it very small.

I understand its a touch screen, kind of the point of it.
I just thought id be able to hook it up to the tv, have a keyboard on my knee and a mouse in my hand with the ipad on the table or somewhere then use this to browse the net, and do other ipady things. Just think the idea of having it on te tv would be good.

well, you can get keyboards for it, but iOS doesnt support pointing devices, you could get a macbook air and an apple tv if you were after portability and size, but as an apple owner, i can say there are better options for the money

Using your TV to do almost anything "iPady" is going to suck.
What you can benefit from sending to the TV from your iPad is photo slideshows and videos. But not something that in it self justifies an Apple TV.

I very, very rarely use my Apple TV for iPad mirroring etc. it's not that good as you still have to look at the iPad to navigate etc, which renders it pretty much pointless - unless you are showing someone something, but even then, you may as well just hand over the iPad...
I use mine pretty much just for playing my purchased Films and playing my music through the decent speaker setup. Thats's about it.
ITunes film rental etc is crap, did it once, won't be doing it again. Slow to download/buffer, and expensive. Best off using Netflix (Think this is built in though? Can't remember as don't use it...)

Why do you have to look at the iPad to navigate when its on the TV?
Never used my ATV3, bought it purely for icefilms following JB which never happened.

How else do I know where I am pressing on the iPad screen when looking at the TV - ie web links etc?
I find I keep looking at the iPad whilst navigating, so it seems to me, using the Mirroring option is pointless.
