I know there was a thread a few weeks ago that Munchie did, but no doubt prices have come down and things have changed.
Needs to have WiFi, decent browser, ability to download new apps, read news, crosswords, righmove etc.
Was looking at the Samsungs but they're more £150+ What about the Kindle Fires?

I've got a PlayBook - it does the job, not sure I'd recommend it to anyone though. The power button stops clicking properly after a while and it does some odd things from time to time; nothing that turning it off and on again won't fix, mind - I'm just used to devices these days not requiring any of that nonsense any more on a regular basis.
Things look good for the new OS coming out for it next year, though. Hopefully it'll bring the platform a bit closer to iOS / Android. Or a bit less flakey at least.

tbh, £100 isn't a great budget for a tablet, you will only get what you pay for

Regarding the budget comments, it's for my old man. I already have a 64gb Playbook and an iPad "3".
Went with the Kindle Fire after Rob posting about it, but through Carphone warehouse as it came with a case too for £115. They look decent, better apps than the playbook available too.
