Hi,
Is there a limit on devices which can run from a wireless router?
My BT homehub2 seems to be lagging a lot currently.

Devices are:
PC -wired
3 iphones
1 Galaxys3
Apple TV
Ipad
Kindle Fire
Macbook air
Cheapy ebay tablet
2 HP laptops
Panasonic smart Tv
2x Hub phones

If the Routers running at it's limit.. Is there any way i can keep the BT hub (to use the internet phones) and run a separate Hi powered Netgear or similar?

errm.... if ALL the above devices are surfing at the same time, it could well be a bandwidth issue, however I suspect they're not?

I don't know anything about the BT hub specs, but if your a proper geek like me, you'd buy a reasonable powerful router with dual band wifi for such occasions.

I suspect the BT hub isn't 5GHz compatible... 5GHz is a much cleaner frequency. Will almost guarantee that you're not running into channel issues with some of your neighbours.

Apple Airport is the best home grade access point I've used.

This.

I actually have a decent dual band router and have the wifi switched off and only use my airport extreme.

I find my Home Hub 3 to be a little crappy too - I can't run a Time Machine backup and stream iPlayer at the same time! Never had that problem with my Sky supplied Netgear DG834.

Any recommendations of a decent Dual band router?
or is an airport pretty much the only way to go... But then i would have to use the crappy BTHH as a modem still.

Is 5ghz really necessary?. not sure if any of my devices would use 5ghz yet, maybe my ipad.

Netgear D6300??.. pretty looking but pricey

Haven't used that particular Netgear...
Any iPhone before the iPhone 5 is 2.4GHz only. iPhone 5 supports both.
99% sure that the iPad 1 is 2.4GHz only, anything newer supports both.
Macbooks are pretty much all dual band capable.
Galaxy S2 and S3 are 5GHz also.

The main reasons for using 5GHz over 2.4GHz is that there are more channels available to use, the frequency is generally a lot cleaner, and you can achieve higher data rates.

I replaced by BT HH3 because it didn't support PPTP for remote connections. Got a £12 TP-Link instead, and that works fine! :S
