Right....
When you take a plate off a car, retain it, and not transfer it straight to another (£80 vs £105) do you still have to pay the £80 transfer fee again when you put it on another car?! Fucking hope not

As above but you will need to pay a fee for every year you wish to retain the plate.

It's all hassle. DVLA and co always do as much as they can to take money from you. When I sold my last car I left my private plate on, couldn't be bothered with the hassle.

The fee is to assign but you pay it prior to it coming off, so its paid by the time you come to put it on a car. To retain is £25pa but you have to pay assignment up front as well.

Scrapped my car with my plate on it, shame as it was my 18th birthday present. But I am not paying the DVLA silly amounts of money to put it on retention then put it on a car 6 months later, they can get fucked.

Yeah I didn't used to be into plates but after getting the wife one it looks good and has a bit of a feel good factor hopefully I'll have another car lined up so it's the £80 swap over I can do!

You're better off paying the £25.. Otherwise you're stuck with a car you need to sell for a few weeks while you wait for the V5C to come back.

I'll just do a retaining form when it sells and they can drive off with it still on? That the way I did it buying this one

Technically they own the plate once you've signed the car over with it on (new keeper slip is enough).

But when we filled in the paperwork we filled in the retention form as well so I just got a new V5/MOT/Tax disc in about a week with the 'New' plate and put the said plates on (which he give me) plus I signed a sale receipt explaining the plate was his property.

Don't let the plate go with the car. I sold my Mondeo with a Phil plate on to a scouser called Scott. Never saw it again, even though we both signed the reciept to say i'd pay to transfer it back. C**T.

No matter what you sign, the plate is theirs when they have the log book/new keeper section in ther name
