Not much of a loss to be honest, not like the loss of PlayUSA!

Amazon is always cheaper these days anyway. Used to order from them quite a lot but haven't for years.

Strange. Amazon managed to sell directly but they don't. Not sure I understand that. decision but there you go.
I think it is ridiculous the government scrapping the tax loop hole. All the income tax etc for the workers being made redundant vs. 20% of a CD each go surely doesn't add up.

And this. They started taking 5 days to deliver. I stopped using them then.

I've been using http://www.find-dvd.co.uk for ages anyway, and admittedly play are rarely at the top, was a good website though

Used to order from them a lot but their customer service is crap compared to Amazon and you can buy more stuff on it.
I use amazon weekly

Bit of a misleading title as technically Play.com isn't closing rather they're changing the focus of the business. Certainly be interesting to see if it'll work though.

Not misleading at all if after March you are able to buy direct from Play rather than from a seller on their market place well done! Change of focus or not after March no more buying from the (real) Play.com (that most remember).

Maybe, they won't last to long anyway. I imagine there's plenty of websites out there that'll be shutting down now the loophole has been closed.

Should say they are blaming the tax loophole being shut but no doubt it's down to Rakuten recently acquiring them and it not being quite as profitable as originally thought so they are shelving it, they don;t give a fuck they are thousands of miles away in Japan

While its not great that its having to close its doors, if its failing to complete with other companies who are having to pay tax then like any other business it can only close and look to shift its focus else where.
Bit like all the people moaning about loss of jobs when they put the Solar kick backs down. They had a kick-start now stand on their own two feet and run a profitably business, if its not profitable then it needs to shut.

Why should they?
If they bought a business that is failing, then irregardless of whether they are in Japan or next door to Play.com offices, they are likely to shut it down.

Massive queues only tell half the story. If they are massive because they are so cheap then chances are the profit margins are tiny but their overheads will be way higher than an online retailer and so probably be making a loss.

HMRC probably couldn't care less about the income they recieved from the 200 workers being made redundant, in the grand scheme of things it's tuppance.
Plus other retailers who pay tax will no longer have to complete with Play.com resulting in price rises and more income from the entire industry.
In the end the only person that looses is the customer.
