PayPal is massively on the side of the buyer right?

Well I'm looking to purchase a new mountain bike frame which I've seen for sale on PinkBike.com. Now I know there is a risk it could get damaged in transit and that it is essentially "sold as seen" however I'm curious how it is likely to work with me paying him money.

He's not going to send it without getting the money and I'm not likely to send any money until he confirms it as sent. Yes all these things are based on trust but I don't know him from the next online scammer.

If I send him some money via PayPal, will they protect me if he decides not to send the item? Or is it a bit lack luster unless I do it all through eBay?

Any advice would be great

I would. But it is 370 miles away. One way. With a bit of water inbetween

Its in Aachen, Germany.

That's the main reason I'm asking. Anywhere else in the UK I'd meet half way etc etc.

You can still raise a claim on Paypal for items outside of Ebay.

Normally the buyer will pay and wait. When you say you're not likely to send money, that isn't how most people do it.

If you link the advert I'm sure the CS anti-fraud dept will be able to assist.

Why would he send it from Germany without receiving any money? . Just don't pay via gift and you'll be fine.

What I meant is I'm not likely to pay via bank transfer or other means.

If you pay for a service onPayPal you still pay fees but get protection. Also make sure you use a credit card on PayPal. That usually gives protection against a retailer (not sure about a private individual but still sensible)

If you can pay by credit card, do that.

Otherwise, buy it from someone in the UK or from eBay.
