I've gotten an offer on a Corsa B sport with a x16xe with a shot engine. Can I fit a x16xel without changing anything (ecu, loom etc). I know its a bit lower on power but I'm not that pushed on that side of things.

just swap the long engine, stick the 16xe inlet/exhaust etc and it still produce standard power.
XEL loses the power (but gains torque) due to the inlet, head is also a different design but will work.

as Alex said. the XEL is better in some ways, SBD recommend the XEL head when running their ITB kit

a modified XEL head will flow better than a XE head, ports are a triangluar shape rather than clover leaf.
