Are they ok to eat if they have fleas on them?
Have seen some conflicting views after searching on Google so can anyone please give me a concrete answer?

I'm pretty sure the cows and lambs etc you eat would be riddled with fleas in the summer (albeit cows don't have fur)

Tulameria (sp) is what you need to worry about. The fleas ticks and blood carry it.
Leave the rabbits out in the cold for a whole and let the bugs leave the host. Then wear gloves when skinning it

Great, cheers folks. Yeah after it was dead I put it in a bucket of ice and water for around three hours then skinned. Forgot to wear gloves though, but I'm fine lol (I think).
No wasn't out lamping Taylor. I used to catch them with a ferret and some nets, but this one died after it made contact with my mates front bumper when he hit it by accident. I know going back for it and skinning it may have been strange thing to do, but sure may as well have made use out of it. Didnt even look damaged apart from blood coming out its nose. Made sure it was dead when I got out.

I'm not sure this saying was made for situations such as running over wild animals with a car

Plus it's illegal for you to pick up your own road kill, you can pick other people's but not your own.
